I feel like the trend now is having the “no makeup” makeup look. That supple, glowing, blemish free face. Ya- if it were that easy. Even though I knew foundations were pore clogging I loved the end result it gave me. After wearing it for a few hours, I used to get stubborn tiny little bumps (closed comodomes) and then pick my face (THE worst thing you can do) and just make them worse. I am sick of it and decided makeup has to be the culprit, so I stopped wearing foundation a few weeks ago and started getting smart with products that were right for MY skin. And so far, SO so good! I think reading blogs and always seeing these beautiful edited images on social media with models saying “I use this, & love it” and then we think, hey, if their skin looks like that, then sure I’ll give it a try too. The problem is everyones skin type is different and it can unfortunately react to a product that others may love. So for me I want to focus more on skincare over the makeup that is just covering up the real problem. The key to a flawless canvas for makeup is hydrated healthy skin.
I want to share a few products that have worked in clearing up my skin and giving me that glow that I strive for.
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily peel pads– OK no joke, these single handedly changed the texture and look of my skin. They’re an home peel that you can use daily, I use it about 4 times a week because I am also using retinol and it burns a bit. I do not have the closed comodones because my skin is constantly getting exfoliated in a powerful yet gentle way. Each daily packet comes with a Step 1 pad which is packed with rejuvenating, exfoliating acids, and a Step 2 which controls the alpha hydroxy acid activity and delivers anti-aging properties, nourishing the skin, keeping it balanced, smooth, and radiant. I use these at night after washing my face before my moisturizer. I promise I have noticed a huge difference and will forever recommend this product! Also comes in Extra Strength which has 7 acids instead of 5, may try these next.
Dr. Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Brighten + Firm Vitamin C Serum– Almost all skincare professionals that I research recommend using a Vitamin C serum. I was hesitant to add another product because I didn’t want the risk of clogging my pores and changing my routine up again. I ended up going with this serum because it does not have added ingredients that will clog your pores. It is a fast absorbing gel serum that feels weightless on my skin. It does exactly what I have read in that it helps with dullness, and any rough texture. With continued use, it has been known to reduce signs of aging and diminish wrinkles. It does not irritate my skin or have a harsh smell and works well with people who have sensitive skin. Try incorporating a Vitamin C serum in your daily skincare routine and notice a brighter complexion! I use one pump in the mornings under my lotion.
